A New York doctor is convicted on nine counts in connection with oxycodone and fentanyl diversion scheme.

DEA New York Division Special Agent in Charge Ray Donovan and United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York Geoffrey S. Berman announced the conviction of Ernesto Lopez, a New York-licensed medical doctor who wrote thousands of medically unnecessary prescriptions for oxycodone and fentanyl over an approximately three-year period, following an eight-day trial before the Honorable Denise L. Cote. Lopez was remanded into custody following his conviction.

Lopez was sentenced to five years in prison.
