In the Middle District of Tennessee, Dr. Bowdoin G. Smith, who was a doctor of osteopathic medicine licensed by the State of Tennessee Department of Health, Board of Osteopathic Examination in August 1987, consented in October 2012 to prescribing pain medication when it wasn’t medically necessary. His license was placed on probation for three years.

The indictment claims that since the probation was lifted in November 2015, and through February (this year), Smith engaged in the same type of behavior. He’s accused of prescribing “highly addictive opioids” with no medical reason.
